January Resident of the Month
January 8, 2025
Hazel Horvath has lived a life full of love, adventure, and kindness. Born in Pennsylvania, she grew up in Cleveland and spent time living in Chicago, Las Vegas, and Arizona. She married her first and only boyfriend, Frank, and the two shared an incredible 55 years of marriage. Together, they built a beautiful family with six children, 19 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
Hazel had a special bond with her grandmother and her children. Known for her generosity, she was famous for feeding not only her own family but also the neighborhood kids. Many of them fondly said,
“When I die and see your mom, I know I’m in heaven because she’s always been such a good person.” Hazel’s loving and soft nature made her a mother figure to everyone she met.
Her love extended to animals, elderly people, and music, which has been a lifelong passion. Hazel even won a dance contest on American Bandstand with Dick Clark—a memory she cherishes. Her favorite vacation spots were Las Vegas and Chicago, though she often wished she could have traveled more. Hazel worked at Lutheran Hospital but spent much of her life as a devoted stay-at-home mom, nurturing her family.
An interesting family connection is that Hazel is related to Patrick Henry, the inventor of the Henry Rifle—a unique piece of her family history.
Now, at Riverview, Hazel seems very content. Her family says she loves the residents, staff, and especially the music activities offered here. We are honored to have someone as warm and caring as Hazel as part of our Riverview family.
Congratulations, Hazel, on being our January Resident of the Month!
